Movie-The Garden of Words
Alternate Title – Kotonoha no Niwa
RUNTIME – 45:51 minutes.
DIRECTOR & WRITER – Makoto Shinkai
GENRE/THEME: Drama, Romance

The film focuses on Takao Akizuki, an aspiring 15-year-old shoemaker, and Yukari Yukino, a mysterious 27-year-old woman he keeps meeting at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden on rainy mornings. The Garden of Words is considered a romance and drama film. It opens at the start of the rainy season in Tokyo with Takao Akizuki, a 15-year-old student, and aspiring shoemaker, opting to skip his first class and sketch shoe designs in the garden at Shinjuku Gyoen, where he encounters Yukari Yukino, a 27-year-old woman who is skipping work and enjoying beer and chocolate.
When she notices the school crest on his uniform, Yukino bids him farewell with a tanka (a form of Japanese poetry), leaving Takao puzzled as to its origin and meaning. The two continue to encounter each other and socialize in the park on rainy mornings, but never formally introduce themselves. After Yukino expresses an interest in Takao’s shoemaking, he decides to make a pair of shoes in her size. With the end of the rainy season, Takao stops visiting the park and focuses on his work. The story begins taking twists from that point on and the consequences follow as such. Takao comes to know about Yukino’s whereabouts from his fellow classmates and friends and the series of events follow as such.
This anime movie is one of the great romantic movies I have ever seen. This is my second movie that I have watched of Shinkai Makoto after 5 Centimeters per Second which make my expectations very high for this movie. So below are the reviews what I felt.
Because of the length, most of the people feel it might not have great content. But believe me, it is 100 times better than many romantic movies. Visualization is what really sets some stories apart from others and this has what it takes to be different.
If you are an admirer of rain, as I am, then there is no doubt that you will love this movie.overall I definitely felt this plot had such realism in it, such drama emotion, goodness that anyone could relate to it, or have experienced something close to this at least once before.
Animation and Graphics
What we can expect from director Makoto Shinkai. The animation is just great i.e realistic, simplistic and elegant. The graphics included rain makes it even more awesome. We can say that visuals are perfectly aligned along with the story and they perfectly suit the characters as well. The character designs are definitely good and fitting for each character. There were times When I actually paused for a moment only to appreciate the art. It is so detailed and good.
The visuals are almost realistic.
Sound and music
The sound and music are great the soothing sound of rain makes you feel calm. The theme song, “Rain”, was written and composed by Senri Oe, and was originally a popular Japanese song in 1988. Shinkai enjoyed listening to Oe’s song regularly while attending university, and since one of the film’s themes was rain, it was the first song that came to mind while he worked on the production.voice actors have done a great job in performing on their own respective characters. The voice given by the actor for particular scenes are just perfect to hear. Piano pieces, a raindrop -They are used in perfect place. For me, the sound of rain just calms me down.
Well, this movie is a kind of masterpiece for you like the slow movie. Most important thing that I can say you will not regret watching it.For me, this movie is good not the perfect main reason for it I want more from it but it was very short. The plot designed to picture the short animated film was, according to me, a perfect one which has the ability to touch the sentiments of any person who watches the film carefully. The story is set as such that the protagonist meets his special someone in the garden, just by mere luck and thus, the garden becomes the spot for the meeting of both of them.
“A faint clap of thunder, even if rain comes not. I will stay here, together with you”
A faint clap of thunder Clouded skies,
Perhaps rain comes
Will you stay here with me?”
― Makoto Shinkai
